One of the biggest challenges in DevRel is determining which among the numerous possible activities is the most leveraged. Over the past 2 years, we (the 3 of us that comprise the DevRel team at Asana) have been refining a process to answer this question.
Borrowing from Voice of the Customer, we created Voice of the Developer (VoD) — a methodology to collect and organize developer feedback into a ranked list. The resulting list of developer priorities can then be addressed in a variety of ways, including improvements to docs, adding more examples, or shaping the API roadmap (among others).
We made mistakes and learned lessons along the way but feel confident that the resulting insights and clarity have been worth the effort.
